Pelvic fractures are one of the life threatening injuries associated with trauma patients, which can lead to severe uncontrollable haemorrhage and death related to prolonged shock and multiple organ failure. These type of fractures should always be suspected in casualties who have sustained high-energy injuries.
When the pressure is on, proper prehospital management of suspected or indicated pelvic fractures will decrease the incidence of pain, disability and serious complications. The use of commercial pelvic binders or sheets to circumferentially stabilise will decrease internal bleeding from an unstable pelvic fracture.
The Lewis Pelvic Applicator™ has been designed to be used in the prehospital and hospital environment, when pelvic fractures are suspected or indicated in a wide range of scenarios including:
